      Narrator Cindy Piller is an ideal match for voicing Sherry Pinkwhistle, a Miss Marple-esque amateur sleuth who always solves the case--much to the chagrin of the local sheriff. This cozy mystery has everything listeners expect: a charming small-town setting, a cast of quirky characters, an endearing pet, and, of course, a murder or two . . . or sixteen. About three hours in, however, the story takes an unexpected paranormal twist when Sherry realizes that her town's murder rate is far from normal. At this point, Piller showcases her versatility, bringing demons to life and even giving the cat, Lord Thomas Cromwell, a refined English gentleman's accent. When Alan, Sherry's boyfriend, is found dead, she becomes the primary suspect. But as she and her talking cat Lord Thomas Cromwell investigate, she begins to suspect there is more to the story. Fearing that demons are on the loose, Sherry sets out to exorcise her small town, solve the murder, and save her neighbors. Waggoner (The Ruthless Lady's Guide to Wizardry) mixes cozy mystery and paranormal happenings in a fun book that will have listeners laughing. Narrator Cindy Piller narrates the snarky, smart, and possibly possessed Sherry, highlighting the hilarity and absurdity of a librarian fighting demons in a small village. From the librarian stereotypes, the nosy neighbors, and the brush with the demonic, this cozy novel has something for everyone. Despite its paranormal leanings, listeners who want something scary but not horrifying will be pleased. Thanks to the novel's frequent nods to many fictional detectives, including Agatha Christie's Poirot, avid mystery fans will find themselves enjoying both the similarities and the differences.
